America's War on Terror - Al-Qaida as the Main Enemy

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with one of the most important problems of the current United States of America ? terrorism, specifically with notorious terrorist group Al-Qaeda and the US counterterrorist policy. The whole thesis is divided into five main chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the whole thesis. The second chapter defines terrorism and briefly describes its history. The third chapter focuses on terrorist group Al-Qaeda ? its history, structure, strategy, ideology and also its leader Osama bin Laden. The fourth chapter depicts the attitude of the US Government to the problem of terrorism, focusing on Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and their approach to terrorism before and after September 11, 2001. The fifth chapter is the conclusion where the author of this thesis evaluates the gathered information. The main aim of this thesis is to outline and specify the problem of terrorism from different sides and to show why terrorism is a long-lasting issue which cannot be solved easily.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá jedním z nejvýznamnějších problémů současných Spojených států amerických ? terorismem, konkrétně pak nechvalně známou teroristickou skupinou Al-Qaeda a protiteroristickou politikou Spojených států. Celá práce je rozdělena do pěti hlavních kapitol. První kapitola je úvod celé práce. Druhá kapitola definuje terorismus a stručně popisuje jeho historii. Třetí kapitola je zaměřena na teroristickou skupinu Al-Qadea ? její historii, strukturu, strategii, ideologii a také jejího vůdce Osama bin Ladena. Čtvrtá kapitola popisuje postoj americké vlády k problému terorismu, se zaměřením na presidenty Billa Clintona a George W. Bushe a jejich postoj k terorismu před a po 11.září 2001. Pátá kapitola je závěr, ve kterém autorka práce vyhodnocuje informace, které nashromáždila. Hlavním cílem této práce je nastínit a specifikovat problém terorismu z různých stran a poukázat na to, proč je terorismus dlouhodobý problém, který nelze jednoduše vyřešit.
