The meaning of the "social work collective identity" idea for social workers in Czech society

Abstract:

O sociální práci se v současné době mluví jako o oboru s podlomenou identitou. Za jednu z příčin je považována její interní neucelenost, způsobená různorodým pojetím sociální práce, vyskytující se v podobě čtyř různých profesních identit – filantropické, administrativní, profesionální a aktivistické, jejímiž nositeli jsou sociální pracovníci. Za možnou cestu, vedoucí k ucelení oborové identity sociální práce, autorka považuje vytvoření kolektivní identity představitelů různých identit. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, zda takto různorodě orientovaní sociální pracovníci prožívají potřebu zformulovat kolektivní identitu. Mimo to i porozumět významům, které s myšlenkou kolektivní identity spojují jednotliví zástupci čtyř dílčích identit. Empirická část práce se tak zaměřuje na hledání základní substance pro vytvoření kolektivní identity, tedy atributů, společným všem čtyřem typům sociálních pracovníků. Dále pak na druhy potřeb formulace kolektivní identity a možné cíle, které by vytvořením kolektivní identity sociální pracovníci sledovali.

Abstract:

Social work profession is currently experiencing a period of an unclear and unstable professional identity. Its growing internal diversity, caused by four different „social work role concepts“(philanthropic, administrative, professional, activist), is assumed as a one of the important factors which splits its coherence. As a possible „remedy“ author suggests to create collective identity of social workers who are following these different „social work roles concepts“ in their practice. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether diverse social workers are/would be interested in idea of their collective identity and what meaning and importance they ascribe to it. The empirical research is focused on searching the attributes, common for all four types of social workers, as the basic elements for their collective identity. Furthermore this thesis examines kinds of social workers´ needs for creating their collective identity as well as their goals they would intend to achieve within the collective identity.
