Persistence of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:

V této práci představíme teorii stejnoměrné persistence neboli permanence. Jedná se o matematický koncept s aplikacemi v matematické biologii. Zabýváme se asymptotickým chováním populací živočišných druhů, otázkou jejich přežití. Model popisující interakci mezi populacemi dravce a kořisti je persistentní, pokud žádný druh v budoucnu nevyhyne. Dynamiku mezi predátorem a kořistí modelujeme pomocí autonomního systému obyčejných diferenciálních rovnic. Formalizujeme několik pojmů persistence, které mohou mít různou sílu. Rozdíly mezi nimi vysvětlíme na základě geometrických interpretací. Zaměříme se především na popis stejnoměrné persistence. Permanenci představíme jako zesílení pojmu persistence ve smyslu požadavků na ohraničení trajektorií, pomocí kterých modelujeme velikosti populací. Popíšeme metodu ljapunovských funkcí v průměru a uvedeme další způsoby vyšetřování stejnoměrné persistence dynamických systémů, které následně ilustrujeme na vybraných příkladech.

Abstract:

In this thesis we introduce a theory of uniform persistence, i.e. permanence. It is a mathematical concept with applications in mathematical biology. We deal with the asymptotic behaviour of populations of animal species; the question of their survival. The model which describes an interaction between a predator and a prey population is persistent, if no species becomes extinct in the future. We model a dynamic between a predator and a prey using ordinary differential equations, particularly autonomous systems. We formalize several concepts of persistence that may have different strengths. We explain differences between them using geometrical interpretations. We primarily focus on a description of uniform persistence. We introduce permanence as strengthening of the persistence concept in the sense of the requirement to bounding trajectories, with them we model population sizes. We describe a method on Average Lyapunov Functions and we present other ways of investigating of uniform persistence of dynamical systems, which we subsequently illustrate using selected examples.
