Developing communication skills of children with multiple disabilities

Abstract:

V diplomové práci jsem se rozhodla pokračovat v tématice bakalářské práce, která se týkala komunikace dětí s těžkým kombinovaným postižením, téma jsem však pojala šířeji. Stále se domnívám, že je tato problematika v dnešní době sociálních i školských změn zajímavá a aktuální. Komunikace a možnost domluvit se je pro člověka důležitá – komunikovat s okolím, sdělit své potřeby a přání. V případě dětí (osob) s těžkým kombinovaným postižením je důležité ke komunikaci využít jakýchkoliv metod a prostředků. V této oblasti jsou stále objevovány a zkoušeny nové systémy, metody a techniky. Ve výzkumné části je analyzována problematika konkrétních dětí, snaha nejbližšího okolí komunikovat s těmito jedinci a možnosti logopedické péče u jedinců s těžkým kombinovaným postižením. Sledované děti pochází ze střední, jižní i severní Moravy. Jde tedy o vzorek z různých koutů České republiky. Všichni respondenti navštěvují Základní školy speciální, využívají ke své komunikaci různých dostupných prostředků a metod a pochází z úplných rodin.

Abstract:

The thesis reflects my decision to continue with the work that was begun in my bachelor’s thesis which concerned the communication of children with severe multiple disabilities. However, the subject is now approached much more extensively. This issue is, I believe, still interesting and current in present-day era of social and educational changes. It is vital for a person to communicate and understand each other – to communicate with others, to share their needs and wishes. In case of children or persons with severe multiple disabilities, it is important to use any communication method or tool available. There is still room for discovering and testing of new systems, methods and techniques. The research part of the thesis analyses the issue of real-life children, the effort of the immediate family to communicate with these individuals and the possibilities of speech therapy for individuals with severe multiple disabilities. The observed individuals come from central, southern and northern Moravia. It is therefore a sample that comes from different parts of the Czech Republic. All respondents attend elementary special schools, use various communication means and methods and come from two-parent families.
