Music and religion in Czech literary production of the 17th and 18th century

Abstract:

Práce poskytuje náhled na vnímání hudby a náboženství v 17. a 18. století na základě dobové slovesné produkce. Výchozí prameny jsou omezeny požadavkem českojazyčnosti a zahrnují texty různých žánrů s převahou metatextových útvarů v kancionálech. První oddíl stati podává přehled hlavních funkcí a rolí hudby, jimiž jsou chvála Boha, výchova ke zbožnosti, šíření věrouky, vliv na emoce či morálku a zprostředkování nebeského zpěvu. Následující oddíl postihuje dílčí problémy na základě tří tematických dichotomií – Boha a člověka, tradice a novosti, přijímané a odmítané hudby. Principem výstavby práce je zobecnění hlavních myšlenek z pramenné základny a jejich zobrazení pod rozličnými úhly.

Abstract:

This thesis provides a view of perception of music and religion in the 17th and 18th century on the basis of contemporary literary production. The sources are defined by the criteria of Czech lingualism and include texts of various genres with a predominance of metatexts in hymn books. The first section of this work provides an overview of the functions and roles of music, which is the praise of God, religious education, propagation of doctrine, moral, emotional influence and mediation of heavenly praises. The second section describes some particular problems based on three thematic dichotomies – God and man, tradition and novelty, accepted and rejected music. The principle basis of the thesis structure is generalized on the main thoughts from basic source and expressing them in different points of view.
