Organisational culture in non-profit organisations in Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje fenoménu firemní kultury v nestátních neziskových organizacích v České republice. Kvůli velkému množství tohoto typu organizací byly vybrány pouze organizace působící v Praze. Tato práce poskytuje podrobný teoretický přehled o nestátních neziskových organizacích v České republice a také o firemní kultuře (nebo také organizační kultuře, jak je často nahrazována v akademické literatuře). Poté se věnujeme metodologické části, kde bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření mezi více než 20 nestátními neziskovými organizacemi, a také byly testovány 3 hypotézy, které byly odvozeny na základě teoretické rešerše. V této části zkoumáme firemní kulturu na základě zvolené typologie vyvinuté Cameronem a Freemanem (1991), abychom určili, který typ kultury je přítomen ve zvolených nestátních neziskových organizacích v České republice, které jsou v této práci analyzovány. Navíc se snažíme pochopit, zda organizační kultura, vytvořená v tomto typu organizací, přispívá k větší motivaci a zapojení zaměstnanců. Hloubkové rozhovory s některými zaměstnanci nám poskytli cenné poznatky o tom, jak zaměstnanci vnímají organizační kulturu a které aspekty je třeba zlepšit. Omezení a doporučení pro další výzkum jsou shrnuty na konci práce.

Abstract:

The following diploma thesis is dedicated to the phenomenon of organisational culture in non-governmental and non-profit organisations in Czech Republic. Because of the significant amount of this type of organisations only organisations based in Prague were chosen. This work provides a detailed theoretic overview of non-governmental non-profit organisations in Czech Republic as well as the term organisational culture (or firm culture, as it is often replaced in the academic literature). Then we dedicate our attention to the methodological part, where a survey within more then 20 non-governmental and non-profit organisations was held to test 3 hypotheses, which were derived from theoretical research. We examine firm culture based on a chosen typology developed by Cameron and Freeman (1991) to define which type of culture is present in most non-governmental and non-profit organisations in Czech Republic which are analysed within this thesis. Furthermore, we aim to understand if the organisational culture, created in this type of organisations, contributes to greater motivation and engagement of employees. In-depth interviews held with some of the employees provided us valuable insights in how employees perceive organisational culture and which aspects require to be improved. Limitations as well as recommendations for further research are summarized at the end of the thesis.
