Communication with the patient in intensive care

Abstract:

Komunikace s pacientem je nedílnou součástí úspěšné nemedicínské péče. O to více je komunikace klíčová u pacientů v intenzivní péči, zejména pak u pacientů na umělé plicní ventilaci. Forma zvolené komunikace s tímto typem pacienta je zásadní pro zmapování jeho aktuálního stavu a přizpůsobení se jeho potřebám či navázání pozitivního vztahu sestra - pacient. První část práce, teoretická, definuje základní pojmy nutné k uvedení do problematiky, obecně definuje komunikaci, její formy a techniky využívané v praxi a dále se věnuje komunikaci s pacientem v intenzivní péči, resp. na umělé plicní ventilaci. Prakticko-analytická část práce se zabývá úrovní komunikace sester a jejich vnímáním důležitosti komunikace pro jejich práci, zejména pokud pečují o pacienta na umělé plicní ventilaci. Vše ověřuje vyhodnocením série průzkumných otázek položeným sestrám v konkrétním zdravotnickém zařízení.

Abstract:

Communication with the patient is an integral part of successful non- medical care. Even more, communication is crucial for patients in intensive care, especially for patients on artificial lung ventilation. The form of chosen communication with this type of patient is essential for mapping his current condition and adapting to his needs or establishing a positive nurse-patient relationship. The first part of the thesis, theoretical, defines the basic concepts necessary to introduce the topic, generally defines communication, its forms and techniques used in practice and also deals with communication with the patient in intensive care, respectively on an artificial lung ventilation. The practical part of the work was based on unstructured interviews with nurses working in the anesthesiology and resuscitation departments and intensive care units, according to which a questionnaire was created and then distributed to them. The analysis and interpretation of the information obtained shows us what aids nurses most often use when communicating with patients on artificial lung ventilation.
