Common Agricultural Policy and the impact of subsidies on the efficiency of farms in the European Union

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Společná zemědělská politika a vliv dotací na efektivitu farem Evropské unie se zabývá Společnou zemědělskou politikou a subvencemi, které z ní plynou. Práce popisuje, jak je SZP upravena v Evropském i národním právu. Důraz je kladen na různé druhy financování, které SZP nabízí. Dále práce zjišťuje, jaký dopad mají dotace na efektivitu farem. Na základě porovnání několika studií, které se tímto tématem zabývají, dochází k závěru, že na efektivitu farem má vliv struktura dotací. Práce také ukazuje, že dotace mají negativní dopad na produktivitu farem z důvodu alokační neefektivnosti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis The Common Agricultural Policy and the impact of subsidies on the efficiency of farms in the European Union deals with the Common Agricultural Policy and the subsidies that follow from it. The paper describes how the CAP is regulated by the European and national law. Emphasis is put on the different types of financing offered by the CAP. In addition, the work identifies the impact of subsidies on a efficiency of farms. Based on a comparison of several studies that deal with this topic, it concludes that the subsidy structure affects farms efficiency. The work also shows that subsidies have a negative impact on farms productivity due to inefficiency.
