Borrowings of Romance Origin in English Magazines for Children and Youth

Abstract:

This thesis examines the influence of Romance languages on English. By analyzing the historical and sociocultural context, this study identifies the patterns and motivations behind the adoption of Romance borrowings and their adaptation in the host language. This work illuminates the linguistic features and semantic shifts that characterize the Romance influence on the English language. It also discusses different types of borrowings and methods. As another, it looks at the actual use of journals for teaching the English language. Children's acquisition of a second language and possible examples of its use in teaching. The practical part deals with the evaluation of a questionnaire that was aimed at teachers and students in the field of foreign language teaching, which is included in the thesis as a separate appendix, besides, another separate appendix is a list of words that are of Romance origin from the magazine "Learn hot English," whose origin was determined using the online dictionary etymoonline. In the practical part, the thesis deals with the frequency of magazine borrowings, their use, advantages or disadvantages, and the respondents' views on their regulation or promotion in teaching.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá vlivem románských jazyků angličtinu. Analýzou historického a sociokulturního kontextu tato studie zjišťuje zákonitosti a motivace, které stojí za přejímáním románských výpůjček a jejich adaptací v hostitelském jazyce. Tato práce osvětluje jazykové rysy a sémantické posuny, které charakterizují románský vliv na anglický jazyk. Také se zabývá různými typy výpůjček a metodami. Jako dalším se zabývá samotným využitím časopisů pro vyučování anglického jazyka. Osvojení si druhého jazyka u dětí a možnými příklady použití při výuce. Praktická část se zabývá vyhodnocením dotazníku, který byl zaměřen na učitele a studenty v oboru učitelství cizího jazyka, který je v práci jako samostatná příloha, mimo to je další samostatnou přílohou seznam slov, které jsou románského původu z časopisu "Learn hot english," jejichž původ byl určen pomocí online slovníku etymoonline. V praktické části se práce zabývá frekvencí výpůjček v časopisech, jejich využití, výhod či nevýhod a názorů respondentů na jejich regulaci či podporu ve výuce Klíčová slova: Románské jazyky, časopis, mládež, děti, vzdělávání.
