Ecological agriculture as a form of work therapy for mentally disabled people

Abstract:

Má práce "Ekologické zemědělství jako forma pracovní terapie pro lidi s mentálním handicapem`` popisuje problematiku péče o lidi s mentálním postižením, kde se jako jedna z alternativ nabízí chráněné bydlení či chráněná dílna v prostředí venkovského statku - ekologické farmy. V jednotlivých kapitolách postupně vysvětluji pojmy mentálního postižení, ekologického zemědělství a termínů z oblasti sociálních služeb,jako např. chráněné bydlení či chráněná dílna, vysvětluji, proč používám nestandardizované interview jako jednu z metod kvalitativního výzkumu a popisuji konkrétní zařízení poskytující službu chráněného bydlení a chráněné dílny v prostředí ekologické farmy. Dále se věnuji vlastnímu šetření, které mělo formou nestandardizovaných rozhovorů s lidmi s mentálním postižením jakožto uživateli služeb ekologicky zaměřeného chráněného bydlení a chráněné dílny zhodnotit, jaký přínos pro ně tento způsob života má, jak se zde v tomto ohledu např. odráží jejich handicap. V následujících kapitolách se věnuji hodnocení zjištěných skutečností a jakým směrem by se situace ohledně péče o handicapované mohla vyvíjet.

Abstract:

The scope of this study, which is called " Ecological agriculture as a form of work therapy for mentally disabled people", is to closely examine the phenomenon of treatment of mentally handicapped. Most importantly, my B.A. thesis pays special heed to sheltered living and protected workshops which I consider to be suitable procedures of such a treatment. To be able to do so properly, the first chapters are dedicated to illustrating the nature of the following terms: persons facing development disability, sheltered living, and protected workshops. The subsequent chapters then illuminate why I chose the method of non-standardised interview as one of the means of qualitative research and describe particular facilities which offer the services of sheltered living and protected workshops to its clients. The main body of the thesis then presents the actual study in the form of non-standardised interviews with persons who face development disability and participate in aforementioned procedures. The aim of such an enquiry is to find out what kind of benefits does such a way of living enable to experience and whether or not are the participants prevented from availing the maximum by their conditions. The final chapters conclude with interpretation of the previously collected data and suggest how to enrich the treatment of persons who face development disability.
