Impacts of the Euro adoption on inbound tourism in Slovenia

Abstract:

Dietrichová K. Vliv zavedení eura na příjezdový cestovní ruch ve Slovinsku. Bakalářská práce. Brno: Mendelova univerzita, 2021 Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje dopadům zavedení eura na příjezdový cestovní ruch ve Slovinsku. V první části je na základě dostupné literatury a existujících studií vymezen příjezdový cestovní ruch a faktory, které jej ovlivňují. Uvedeny jsou také nejčastěji diskutované výhody a nevýhody přijetí společné měny. Další kapitola se věnuje faktorům ovlivňujícím příjezdový CR ve Slovinsku. Empirická část se věnuje analýze příjezdů do Slovinska s důrazem na teritoriální strukturu příjezdů. Pro hodnocení případného euro efektu je vytvořena benchmarková skupina jako aritmetický průměr vybraných zemí. Země tvořící tuto skupinu jsou Česká republika, Estonsko, Litva, Lotyšsko a Maďarsko. Vývoj vybraných ukazatelů ve Slovinsku před a po roce 2007 je porovnáván s benchmarkovou skupinou. Vybranými ukazateli jsou příjezdy ze zemí eurozóny, zaměstnanost v CR, podíl CR na HDP a ubytovací kapacity. Na základě výsledků analýzy vývoje příjezdů a komparace s benchmarkovou skupinou nebyl zaznamenán vliv eura jako faktoru, který ovlivnil příjezdový CR Slovinska. Růst příjezdů je dán spíše potenciálem slovinského cestovního ruchu.

Dietrichová K, Impacts of the Euro adoption on inbound tourism in Slovenia. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2021. This thesis researches impacts on inbound tourism in Slovenia. Firstly, based on available literature inbound tourism and the factors that influence it are defined. Secondly the most discussed advantages and disadvantages of adopting a common currency and existing empirical studies dealing with the same issues are presented. The next chapter deals with the factors that affect the inbound tourism in Slovenia. The empirical part deals with the analysis of international arrivals to Slovenia. Priority is given to territorial structure of these arrivals. To evaluate the possible euro effect, a benchmark group is created as an arithmetic average of selected countries. Chosen countries are the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary. The development of selected indicators in Slovenia before and after 2007 is compared with the benchmark group. Selected indicators are arrivals from euro area members, total employment in tourism as a share of total employment, the total contribution of tourism to GDP and accommodation capacity. Based on the results of the analysis of the development of arrivals and comparison with the benchmark group, the influence of the euro as a factor that affected the inbound tourism in Slovenia was not identified. The growth of arrivals is rather due to the potential of Slovenian tourism.
