Concepts of masculinity and its experiencing in candidates of the catholic priesthood

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá poznatky společenských věd o konceptech maskulinity. Hlavním výzkumným tématem je vnímání a prožívání vlastní maskulinity u mužů, kteří se rozhodli stát kandidáty katolického kněžství. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na koncept maskulinity a teoretické pojmy s ní související, teoretické přístupy a prožívání maskulinity. Poslední kapitola se zaměřuje na formování kněžích a kandidátů katolického kněžství v souvislosti s jejich maskulinitou. Výzkumná část přibližuje průběh kvalitativního výzkumu, který byl realizovaný formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s pěti kandidáty katolického kněžství. Získaná data byla následně analyzována pomocí fenomenologické interpretativní analýzy. Výzkumem se podařilo zjistit, že kandidáti katolického kněžství koncipují maskulinitu ve vztahu k druhým lidem a vymezením vůči feminitě, zatímco mužnost vnímali jako soubor psychických vlastností a schopností. V průběhu analýzy vyvstala i témata související s prožíváním vlastní maskulinity, a to osobní zrání a snaha o sebezdokonalování. V závěru bakalářské práce je zhodnocena použitá metoda a navrženy varianty navazujících výzkumů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the knowledge of social sciences about concepts of masculinity. The main research topic is how the men who have decided to become candidates for the Catholic priesthood perceive and experience their own masculinity. Theoretical part of thesis describe concept of masculinity and the theoretical terms related with it, theoretical approaches and experiencing of masculinity. The last chapter spotlights the formation of priests and candidates for the Catholic priesthood in relation with their masculinity. The research part describes the course of a qualitative analysis which was realized in the form of semi-structured interviews with five candidates for the Catholic priesthood. The obtained data were subsequently analysed using phenomenological interpretative analysis. The research proved that candidates for the Catholic priesthood conceive masculinity in the relation with others and femininity's limits, yet they perceive manliness as a set of psychic qualities and abilities. The analysis dealt also with topics related to experiencing one's own masculinity, which are personal maturation and pursuit of self-improvement. The method used is evaluated at the end of the thesis, and variants of follow-up researches are proposed.
