Analysis of the impacts of the 2007-2009 and 2020-2021 crises on unemployment in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce analyzuje dopady dvou krizí a to finanční krize v letech 2007-2009 a koronavirové krize, v letech 2020 a 2021. Původ krizí se velmi lišil, avšak obě krize přinesly ze začátku nejistotu a pesimismus a vlády všech států musely reagovat na situaci, se kterou se předtím nesetkaly. Zatímco finanční krize byla způsobena několika aspekty jako morální hazard některých finančních institucí, nebo nedostatečnými zákony, koronavirová krize byla způsobena opatřeními proti nemoci, která se začala šířit na přelomu roku 2019 a 2020. Obě krize však způsobily některé sociální a ekonomické problémy. Práce zkoumá vliv krizí na vybrané ekonomické ukazatele, zejména se zaměřuje na trh práce v ČR. Z vypracované analýzy vyplývá, že koronavirová krize zasáhla státní rozpočet více, než tomu tak bylo u finanční krize, naopak dopad na nezaměstnanost byl výrazně vyšší u finanční krize. To bylo způsobeno odlišným průběhem krizí. Z pohledu nezaměstnanosti byl v období globální finanční krize nejvíce zasažen sektor zpracovatelský a v období koronavirové krize sektor ubytování, stravování a pohostinství. Nejvíce zasaženou skupinou lidí z pohledu nezaměstnanosti byli mladí a málo vzdělaní lidé a to v obou obdobích.

Abstract:

The work analyzes the effects of two crises, namely the financial crisis in 2007-2009 and the coronavirus crisis in 2020 and 2021. The origins of the crises were very different, but both crises initially brought uncertainty and pessimism and all governments had to respond to the situation, have not met before. While the financial crisis was caused by several aspects such as the moral hazard of some financial institutions or insufficient laws, the coronavirus crisis was caused by measures against the disease, which began to spread at the turn of 2019 and 2020. However, both crises caused some social and economic problems. The thesis examines the impact of crises on selected economic indicators, especially focusing on the labor market in the Czech Republic. The analysis shows that the coronavirus crisis affected the state budget more than it did in the financial crisis, while the impact on unemployment was significantly higher in the financial crisis. This was due to the different course of the crisis. In terms of unemployment, the manufacturing sector was hardest hit during the global financial crisis and the accommodation, catering and hospitality sectors during the coronavirus crisis. The most affected group of people in terms of unemployment were young and poorly educated people in both periods.
