The UK's referendum in 2016 about remaining in the EU in context of debate about the benefits and costs of European integration

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analýza výsledků britského referenda konaného v roce 2016. Dílčím cílem je rovněž analýza debat o přínosech a nákladech evropské integrace pro Velkou Británii a jejich možného vlivu na výsledky referenda o setrvání Velké Británie v EU. První část práce se zaměří na přiblížení vývoje evropského integračního procesu a role Velké Británie v tomto procesu, včetně okolností vstupu země do EU. V další části práce bude přiblížen postoj nejdůležitějších aktérů k členství v EU, včetně například otázek připojení Velké Británie k Evropské měnové unii nebo počátků a současné podoby euroskepticismu na britských ostrovech. Třetí část práce bude věnována analýze současných (předreferendových) debat o přínosech a nákladech evropské integrace, včetně popisu kampaní různých skupin vyslovujících se jak pro setrvání země v EU, tak pro odchod země z EU. Konečně poslední kapitola práce se zaměří na výsledky samotného referenda a jeho možného vlivu na další podobu evropského integračního procesu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is an analysis of the results of UK's referendum in 2016 about remaining in the EU. Another aim is an analysis of debate about the benefits and costs of European integration for Great Britain and its possible impact on the results. The first part focuses on a development of European integration process and role of Great Britain in this process including circumstances of entering the UK to the European Union. In the following part is discussed attitude of the most important UK's representatives towards the European Union. Including issues about entering the European monetary union or the beginning of the Euroscepticism. The third part concerned the analysis of temporary debates about the benefits and costs of European integration including description of campaigns of different political parties expressing either to remain or to leave the EU. The last part focuses on the result of the referendum and its influence on the future form of the European integration process.
