Concept of sustainable development in metropolitan areas in the context of the use of Car-sharing: Case study of sustainable transport in Prague 5

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku udržitelné dopravy v rámci rozvoje metropolitních oblastí. Konkrétním příkladem, kterým se diplomová práce zabývá je oblast sdílených automobilů neboli tzv. carsharingu. Teoretická část práce zasazuje tuto oblast do kontextu udržitelné dopravy a sdílené ekonomiky. Dále jsou zde popsány různé faktory, které mají vliv na volbu dopravního prostředku a příklady přístupu zahraničních měst k dopravním problémům. Praktická část vychází z průzkumů, které se zaměřují na rozvoj oblasti sdílených automobilů jako formy udržitelné dopravy. Provedené rozhovory přispívají k pochopení rozvoje udržitelné dopravy na území Prahy 5 a fungování a spolupráce společností poskytující sdílené automobily s veřejnou správou. Dotazníkové šetření zkoumá vztah obyvatel Prahy 5 ke sdíleným vozidlům. To vše je pak doplněno o vlastní zkušenost autora s využíváním sdílených automobilů. Na základě provedených průzkumů bylo zjištěno, že většina obyvatel Prahy 5 pojem sdílení automobilů i jeho význam znají a jejich neinformovanost není hlavním faktorem, proč danou službu nevyužívají.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is concerned with the issue of sustainable transport within the development of metropolitan areas. A specific example is area of the shared cars so-called carsharing. The theoretical part of this thesis puts carsharing in the context of sustainable development and shared economy. Futhermore, there are described various factors influencing the choice of the means of transport and there are also mentioned a specific approaches of selected foreign cities to traffic problems. The practical part is based on surveys that focus on carsharing as a form of sustainable transport. The interviews contribute to the understanding of the development of sustainable transport in Prague 5 and operation and cooperartion of companies providing shared cars and public administration. The questionnaire examines the relationship of inhabitants of the Prague 5 to carsharing. All of this is complemented by the author´s own experience with using a shared cars. Based on the surveys conducted, it was found that most people in Prague 5 know the concept of car sharing and its importance, and their lack of information is not the main factor why they do not use the service.
