Social and emotional needs of individually integrated pupils with physical disabilities in the secondary school environment

Abstract:

Předložená disertační práce se zaměřuje na důležitou oblast vzdělávací politiky, které je především v zahraniční odborné literatuře věnováno stále více pozornosti - sociálním a emocionálním potřebám žáků s tělesným postižením, kteří byli v průběhu svého sekundárního vzdělávání individuálně integrováni do škol hlavního vzdělávacího proudu. Teoretická část práce ukotvuje zvolenou problematiku, přičemž akcent je kladen na charakteristiku vybrané cílové skupiny - adolescentů s vrozeným tělesným postižením - z hlediska somatického, psychosociálního a edukačního. Dále si všímáme sociálních specifik, které mohou být s vrozeným tělesným postižením spjaty, a determinují tak žákovo začlenění a participaci v prostředí střední školy. Teoretický rámec je pak uzavřen kapitolou o sociálních a emocionálních potřebách žáků s tělesným postižením jako součásti integrativní edukační praxe, a to s přihlédnutím k jejím aktuálním trendům, činitelům a psychosociálním aspektům. Empirická část práce představuje nejenom metodologické pozadí autorského výzkumu, ale především jeho výsledky. Hlavním cílem realizovaného kvalitativního výzkumu bylo zjistit, jak deset absolventů s vrozeným tělesným postižením (dětskou mozkovou obrnou či spinální svalovou atrofií) retrospektivně reflektuje naplňování svých sociálních a emocionálních potřeb v prostředí střední školy. Data získaná skrze polostrukturovaná interview byla analyzována za využití analytických postupů situační analýzy, jež je řazena ke druhé generaci zakotvené teorie. Jako sekundární metoda sběru dat byla zvolena analýza legislativních, kurikulárních a strategických dokumentů české vzdělávací politiky, ale i dokumentů vydaných na evropské úrovni, a to s cílem posoudit, nakolik jsou v nich reflektovány sociální a emocionální potřeby žáků se speciálními vzdělávacími potřebami. Na základě vyvozených závěrů jsou formulována doporučení do praxe, nastíněn aplikační rozměr práce, ale i diskutovány možnosti dalšího výzkumu ve zvolené oblasti.

Abstract:

The presented dissertation focuses on an important area of educational policy which is recently even more discussed, primarily in a foreign scientific literature - on social and emotional needs of individually integrated pupils with physical disabilities during their secondary school education. The theoretical part expounds the chosen issue with emphasis on the characteristic of the selected target group - adolescents with congenital physical disabilities - from the somatic, psychosocial and educational point of view. Furthermore, the attention is paid to social specificities that can be associated with congenital physical disabilities and thus determine pupils' integration and participation in the secondary school environment. The last theoretical chapter introduces not only social and emotional needs of pupils with physical disabilities as a part of the integrative educational practice, but also considers its current trends, factors and psychosocial aspects. The empirical part of the thesis presents the methodological background of authors' research as well as its results. The main aim of this qualitative research was to identify how the sample of ten graduates with congenital physical disabilities (cerebral palsy or spinal muscular atrophy) retrospectively reflects the fulfillment of their social and emotional needs in the secondary school environment. The data obtained through a semi-structured interviews was analyzed in accordance with the procedures of situational analysis which is classified as the second generation of the grounded theory. As a secondary method of data collection, the analysis of legislative, curricular and strategic documents of the Czech educational policy, as well as documents issued at European level, was chosen. The goal of this supportive method was to identify the reflection of social and emotional needs of pupils with special needs in mentioned documents. Based on the research results, recommendations for pedagogical practice, application dimension of the thesis, but also the possibilities of further research in the chosen area are discussed.
