A Third Culture in Literary Writings: Indian Culture Specific Items in Novels by English Writing Indian Authors and Their Czech Translations
Abstract:
Tato práce se zaměřuje na české překlady výrazů specifických pro indickou kulturu a dalších elementů z jiných cizích jazyků, které se objevují v dílech anglicky píšících indických autorů. Na příkladech z českých překladů tří románů zkoumá, které jsou nejčastěji uplatněné strategie pro překlad těchto elementů do češtiny a které faktory překladatelovu volbu adekvátní strategie ovlivňují.
Abstract:
This thesis concentrates on translations of expressions specific for the Indian culture and elements of other languages which appear in novels by English writing Indian authors. On examples from three novels, it examines what the most frequently applied strategies to deal with these items are and outlines which factors influence translators’ choice of the appropriate translation strategy.
