The influence of AKP on the foreign policy of Turkey

Abstract:

Zahraniční politika Turecka v poslední době vyvolává mezi pozorovateli řadu otázek. Někteří autoři tvrdí, že vládnoucí Strana spravedlnosti a rozvoje (AKP) opouští prozápadní směřování a mění Turecko na soupeře Západu. Jiní autoři naopak považují AKP za vhodnou směs demokratičnosti, prozápadnosti a umírněného islámu. Tato práce si klade za cíl popsat, z čeho tyto rozdílné pohledy pramení. Jejím těžištěm bude osoba architekta nové zahraniční politiky země, prof. Ahmeta Davotoğlu a jeho rozsáhlé odborné dílo. V jeho kontextu bude poté analyzována zahraniční politika Turecka na příkladu sousedních zemí a její proměna v období vlády AKP od roku 2002 do současnosti.

Abstract:

Foreign policy of Turkey raises questions among many observers in recent years. Some authors argue that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is leaving the pro-Western orientation and changes Turkey to the rival of the West. Other authors on the contrary consider the AKP as an appropriate mix of democracy, moderate Islam and pro-Western orientation. This thesis aims to describe the sources of these different views. It will focus on a person of an architect of a new foreign policy, Professor. Ahmet Davotoğlu, and his extensive scholarly work. In its context will be analyzed Turkish foreign policy on the examples of neighboring countries and its transformation during the AKP government since 2002 to the present.
