School maturity and readiness of children in the context of school attendance deferrals

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou odkladů školní docházky. Cílem práce je zjistit, co děti odkladem školní docházky získávají, případně ztrácí a zda jsou udělené odklady opodstatněné. Jedná se o aktuální téma, neboť z každoročních výročních zpráv České školní inspekce vyplývá, že počet odkladů v České republice stále výrazně stoupá, i oproti jiným státům. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. V teoretické části budou vymezeny základní pojmy školní zralosti a připravenosti a také školní nezralosti. Dále je zde uvedena charakteristika dítěte předškolního věku a odklady školní docházky. V teoreticko-kritické části se budeme zabývat odklady povinné školní docházky z pohledu zahraničních odborníků a studií. V empirické části bude definován cíl výzkumu. K samotnému výzkumu budou využity kvalitativní metody, konkrétně polostrukturovaný rozhovor s učitelkami mateřské školy, učitelkami z přípravných tříd a školní psycholožkou. Získaná data budou vyhodnocena a diskutována v kontextu současného stavu poznání.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of postponement of school attendance. The aim of the thesis is to find out what children gain or lose by postponing schooling and whether the granted postpones are justified. This is a current topic, as it follows from the annual reports of the Czech School Inspectorate that the number of postponements in the Czech Republic continues to rise significantly, even compared to other countries. The work is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, the basic concepts of school maturity and readiness will be defined and also school immaturity. Furthermore, the characteristics of a child of preschool age are presented here and school deferrals. In the theoretical-critical part, we will deal with postponements of compulsory schooling from the point of view of foreign experts and studies. The objective of the research will be defined in the empirical part. Qualitative methods will be used for the research itself, specifically a semi-structured interview with kindergarten teachers, teachers from preparatory classes and a school psychologist. The obtained data will be evaluated and discussed in the context of the current state of knowledge.
