Views on Death and Dying among Health Care Workers

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je problematika paliativní a hospicové péče poskytované lidem v terminálním stádiu života. Cílem práce je shrnout aktuální dostupné poznatky o současných možnostech důstojného umírání, ve kterém má pracovník sociálních služeb svou specifickou roli. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. Teoretická část přináší poznatky o stárnutí, stáří, umírání a smrti, o rozdílech mezi domácím a institucionálním modelem umírání. Mapuje také současné uspořádání podpory a pomoci umírajícím jako jsou podpůrné sociální a zdravotní služby při domácí péči, systém paliativní nebo hospicové péče a úlohu pracovníka sociální péče v tomto systému. Praktická část poté přináší hloubkový rozhovor s pracovníkem sociálních služeb v systému hospicové péče a odpovídá tak na otázky týkající se jeho role v procesu umírání a smrti.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is issue of palliative and hospice care provided to people in the terminal stage of their life. The aim of this work is to summarize the current available knowledge on the current possibilities of dying with dignity, in which a social worker is to play his specific role. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part brings knowledge about aging, old age, dying and death, about differences between home and institutional model of dying. It also maps the current organization of support and assistance to the dying, such as supportive social and health services in home care, the palliative or hospice care system and role of a social care worker in this system. The practical part brings then an in-depth interview with a social worker in the hospice care system and in this way, it answers questions about his role in during the process of dying and death.
