Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem eugenického hnutí a jejím cílem je zdůraznit význam eugenického hnutí ve Spojených státech amerických v rámci kontextu širších rasových a světových dějin. Nejprve se věnuje samotnému vzniku rasových teorií, kdy se s příchodem modernity a nastalou kritikou křesťanského učení v průběhu osvícenství začala užívat nová klasifikace lidstva, a to na základě rasové příslušnosti. S rozvojem přírodovědných vědních oborů a věd o člověku vznikly teorie nové a průlomové, které lidské dějiny zařadily do přírodních procesů. S těmito teoriemi Charlese Darwina o vývoji druhů a přirozeném boji se cílová skupina změnila, ze zvířecí a rostlinné říše se přesunula pozornost na říši lidskou. Diplomová práce dále popisuje vnik teorií o ozdravení lidské společnosti, která by se měla oprostit od nežádoucích a škodlivých elementů uvnitř sebe samé. Toto osvobození by jí povzneslo výš na zdravotní, civilizační i duchovní úrovni. Tak vznikla eugenická věda o lidském chovu. Pomocí řízené likvidace defektních jedinců a podpory reprodukce žádoucích genů. Ze země svého vzniku, Velké Británie, kde se praktikovala pouze na teoretické úrovni, se přesunula na území Spojených států americký a zde byla teorie převedena do praxe. Touha po ozdravení společnosti s pozdějším přidáním teorií o nadřazené rase vládla v americké společnosti a legislativě na konci devatenáctého a v první polovině dvacátého století. Pomocí nedobrovolné sterilizace či věznění dědičně chorých, slabomyslných, epileptiků a mnoho dalších se americká společnost a ekonomika zbavovaly slabších elementů. Třetí část je věnována eugenickému vlivu Spojených států amerických. Americkým pojetím eugeniky se inspirovali rasoví teoretici poválečného Německa. Do těchto teorií přidali mýtus o čistotě rasy a tuto syntézu aplikovali až do definitivní prohry Třetí říše ve druhé světové válce.

Abstract:

This dissertation concerns the topic of the eugenic movement and its object is to emphasize the significance of the eugenic movement in the United States of America in the context of broader racial and world history. Initially, the dissertation concerns the origin on racial theories themselves, when a new classification of mankind on racial affiliation began to be used with the arrival of modernity and aftermath criticism of Christian teachings in the Enlightenment. New and groundbreaking theories were created due to the expansion of nature braches of science and sciences about a human and therefore the human history was included into natural processes. The target group has changed from the animal and plant kingdom to human kingdom with the arrival of theories by Charles Darwin about the species evolution and natural battle. The dissertation also describes the formation of theories about recovery of the human society that should free itself from undesirable and prejudicial elements inside itself. This liberation would edify it higher on the health, civilizational even spiritual level. The eugenic science about the human breed was formed this way - by controlled elimination of the defective specimens and by supporting the reproduction of the suitable genes. This science was moved and brought into effect in the United States of America from the country of origin, Great Britain, where it was applied only theoretically. The desire to cure the society with the following theory of the superordinate race dominated the American society and legislation at the end of the nineteenth and in the first half of the twentieth century. The American society and economy were getting rid of weaker elements due to the involuntary sterilization or imprisonment of genetically ill and weak-minded people, epileptics and many others. The third part of the dissertation deals with the eugenic influence of the United States of America. The racial theorists of the post-war Germany found inspiration in the American eugenic conception. The theorists added the myth about racial purity into these theories and they used this synthesis up into the ultimate defeat of the Third Reich in the World War II.
