Teaching Writing to Young EFL Learners

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřená na výuku anglického jazyka u mladších žáků a zvláště na výuku psaní. Teoretická část nabízí podklady pro výuku dětí, aspekty jejich vývoje a jejich typické znaky. Dále se zabývá psaním jako takovým. Ukazuje možné překážky, které mohou způsobit, že psaní je pro děti náročné, zvláště dyslexie a dysgrafie. Nakonec teoretická část navrhuje pořadí cvičení a aktivit, které by ve správném pořadí měly vést k úspěchu ve výuce. Praktická část je založena na projektu realizovaném s žáky 4. ročníku na Základní škole v Třešti. Ukazuje některé aktivity vyzkoušené během školního roku 2007/2008. Nakonec srovnává práce, které děti napsaly na začátku a na konci daného období. Práce přichází s návrhem, že psaní by mělo být podporováno a pravidelně rozvíjeno aby se stalo běžnou a příjemnou součástí hodin angličtiny.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with teaching English to young learners and especially with teaching writing. The theoretical part provides the background for teaching young learners, aspects of their development and their typical features. Then it deals with writing as such. It shows possible obstacles which can make writing difficult, especially disabilities such as dyslexia and dysgraphia. Finally, the theoretical part suggests the sequence of exercises which should be done in a correct order to reach high results in teaching. The practical part is based on research which was done with 4th grade pupils at an elementary school in Třešť. It presents some writing activities which were used with these children during the school year 2007/2008. Then it compares children’s pieces of writing from the beginning and the end of this term. The thesis concludes with suggestions for teachers that writing should be supported and regularly developed to make it a common and pleasant part of English lessons.
