The city of Chrudim during World War II with a focus on the gendarmerie, the police, and the firefighters

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce má za úkol představit město Chrudim během druhé světové války z hlediska lokální bezpečnosti. V úvodní části práce se dozvíme něco z historie města, potom je nastíněn život obyvatel ve městě těsně před vypuknutím druhé světové války a následují válečná léta v Chrudimi, která jsou představena v jednotlivých oblastech života. Hlavní pozornost je zaměřena na veřejný pořádek včetně požární ochrany. Důležitou bezpečnostní složku v Chrudimi během druhé světové války tvořilo vojensky organizované četnictvo, policie a německé bezpečnostní složky. Zásahy při požárech, povodních a dalších mimořádných událostech patřily k hlavním úkolům sboru dobrovolných hasičů, který má v Chrudimi dlouhodobou tradici.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to present the city of Chrudim during World War II from the perspective of local security. In the introductory part, we learn about the history of the city, followed by an outline of the lives of its inhabitants just before the outbreak of World War II. The next part presents the war years in Chrudim, which are introduced in various areas of life. The main focus is on public order including fire protection. During World War II, an important security component in Chrudim was the military-organized gendarmerie, the police and the German security forces. Interventions at times of fires, floods and other types of emergencies were among the main tasks of the Volunteer Fire Department, which has had a long tradition in Chrudim.
