Music Therapy Interventions and their Outcomes in the Treatment of Eating Disorders: A Scoping Review.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na muzikoterapeutické intervence a jejich využití v léčbě poruch příjmu potravy (PPP). Práce si klade za cíl identifikovat typy muzikoterapeutických intervencí používaných při léčbě PPP a jejich výsledky. Aby bylo možné zmapovat, identifikovat a syntetizovat výsledky výzkumů, byl v této práci aplikován metodologický koncept scoping review. Vyhledávání relevantních studií bylo provedeno v následujících databázích: CINAHL Plus, EMBASE, MEDLINE (OvidSP), ProQuest Central, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus a Web of Science. V databázích bylo nalezeno celkem 462 záznamů a na základě předem stanovených kritérií bylo do výsledného souboru zařazeno 12 studií. Vybrané studie byly dále analyzovány za účelem zodpovězení hlavních výzkumných otázek. Výsledná data ukázala, že typ muzikoterapeutických intervencí používaných při léčbě PPP závisí na kontextu léčby. Pro porozumění účinnosti muzikoterapeutických intervencí je třeba v budoucích výzkumech realizovat více kvantitativních studií. Tato práce však naznačuje, že muzikoterapeutické intervence mají nadějné výsledky v léčbě PPP, zejména při práci s emocemi a vytváření nových copingových strategií.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on music therapy (MT) interventions in the treatment of eating disorders (EDs). In particular, it aims at identifying types of MT interventions used in the treatment of EDs and their outcomes. In order to map, identify and synthesize the research evidence, the methodological concept of scoping review was applied in the present thesis. The search of the relevant studies was conducted in the following databases: CINAHL Plus, EMBASE, MEDLINE (OvidSP), ProQuest Central, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The total number of 462 reports was obtained after the database search, and based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the number of 12 studies was included in the final data set. Further, selected studies were analysed in order to answer the main research questions. Studies showed that type of MT interventions used in the treatment of EDs depends on the context of the treatment. Further, quantitative study design needs to be conducted in future research. This is necessary for a better understanding of the efficacy of MT interventions. However, this scoping review indicates that MT interventions show promising results in the treatment of EDs, especially addressing patient’s needs on an emotional level and in the development of new coping skills.
