Abstract:
During his life Guy de Maupassant was experiencing peculiar states of mind that reached their intensity peak in the 1880's. By that time he was diagnosed with general paresis – a possible symptom of late-stage syphilis. De Maupassant – who was genetically predisposed to syphilis – reflected this experience in his work. U spisovatele Guy de Maupassanta se už od mládí vyskytovaly zvláštní psychické stavy, které vrcholí od 80. let 19. století, kdy u něj doktoři konstatovali progresivní paralýzu, která může být jedním z příznaků třetího stádia syfilidy.
