Use of music in English language lessons with pupils diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na využití hudby v hodinách anglického jazyka s žáky s diagnostikovanými speciálními potřebami, konkrétně ADHD a dyslexií. Cílem práce je zmapování teoretického pozadí tématu, následná aplikace ve výuce a popis relevantních výsledků výzkumu. Teoretická část práce se zabývá osvojováním druhého jazyka a aspekty tohoto procesu, které ovlivňují osvojení jazyka u jedinců s výše zmíněnými diagnózami. V dalších kapitolách jsou definovány poruchy ADHD a dyslexie, důraz je kladen na vlivy na učení. V poslední části je uveden přehled možností využití hudby v hodinách anglického jazyka, konkrétně říkanky, písně, jazz chants a využití hudby v pozadí při učení. Praktická část obsahuje výzkum založený na aplikaci výukových plánů u žáků tří různých věkových skupin. Dále je zahrnuta analýza výukových hodin, společně s popisem výsledků získaných několika metodami.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the use of music in English language lessons with pupils diagnosed with dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The work aims to map the theory connected to the topic, apply it in lessons and describe relevant results from the research. The theoretical part firstly defines the topic of second language acquisition and its aspects influencing acquisition of the second language in children diagnosed with the special needs mentioned earlier. In the following chapters, ADHD and dyslexia are discussed, mainly in connection to learning. In the last chapter music and ways of its use in the classroom are described, specifically rhyming, songs, jazz chants, and background music. The practical part includes a mixed methods research based on piloting lesson plans for three different age groups. Analysis of the lessons is then included as well as an evaluation of the findings.
