Biodegradable materials and their potential impact on waste management

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá biologicky rozložitelnými materiály a jejich vlivem na odpadové hospodářství. Literární část je zaměřená na bioplasty a základní pojmy spojené s rozkladnými procesy. Dále jsou uvedeny normy, certifikace a testování, které souvisí s biologicky rozložitelnými materiály. V závěru literární části je popsán životní cyklus biologicky rozložitelných materiálů se zaměřením na proces kompostování. Praktická část práce je rozdělena do tří částí, ve kterých jsou popsány dílčí pokusy. Předmětem zkoumání byly kuchyňské houbové utěrky, u kterých byla ověřována informace o 100% biodegradabilitě či kompostovatelnosti materiálu uvedené na obalu. První část se zabývá pokusem v reálných podmínkách kompostování v brněnské Centrální kompostárně. Druhá část se zaměřuje na testování rozpadu zkoumaného materiálu v laboratorních podmínkách. Třetí část doplňuje pokus v reálných podmínkách o test fytotoxicity kompostu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with biodegradable materials and their influence on waste management. The literary part focuses on bioplastics and basic concepts associated with decomposition processes. Additionally, there are standards, certifications and testing that apply to biodegradable materials. At the end of the literary part is described the life cycle of biodegradable materials with a focus on the composting process. The practical part of the thesis is divided into three parts, which describe partial experiments. The subject of the study was sponge cloths, for which information on the 100% biodegradability or compostability of the material on the package was verified. The first part deals with the experiment in the real conditions of composting at the Brno Central composting plant. The second part deals with testing the breakdown of the material under investigation in laboratory conditions. And the third part completes the experiment in the real conditions for the phytotoxicity test of compost.
