The influence of locus of control on coping strategies used in the field of work-life balance

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit vliv místa kontroly na volbu copingové strategie a jejich společný vliv na work-life balance jedince. Dosavadní literatura doporučuje za-bývat se propojením zkoumaných proměnných v rámci jednoho výzkumu, zatím však téměř žádný takový výzkum proveden nebyl. Diplomová práce je proto pojata jako pilotní studie tématu. Kvantitativní výzkum pomocí dotazníkového šetření byl proveden za účelem ověření mediačního vztahu mezi místem kontroly a work-life balance, kde copingové strategie vystupovaly jako mediátorová proměnná. Výsledky potvrzují existenci mediačního vztahu a potvrzení formulovaných předpokladů. In-terní místo kontroly vede k vyššímu užívání příklonových strategií zaměřených na problém a k menšímu užívání odklonových strategií zaměřených na problém, čímž zvyšuje work-life balance. Jelikož se jedná o pilotní studii a vztah může být ovlivněn dalšími proměnnými, byl navrhnut směr dalšího výzkumu.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis was to find out the effect of the locus of control on the choice of coping strategy and their joint effect on the individual's work-life balance. The existing literature recommends dealing with the connection of investigated variables within one research, but almost no such research has been carried out yet. The diploma thesis is therefore conceived as a pilot study of the topic. Quantitative research using a questionnaire survey was conducted in order to verify the mediating relationship between locus of control and work-life balance, where coping strategies acted as a mediating variable. The results confirm the existence of a mediation relationship and confirmation of the formulated assumptions. Internal locus of control leads to higher use of engagement problem-focused approach strategies and less use of disengagement problem-focused approach strategies, thereby increasing work-life balance. As this is a pilot study and the relationship may be influenced by other variables, a direction for further research has been suggested.
