The perception of the theme of death in literature for children

Abstract:

V soudobé společnosti dochází k tabuizaci smrti, ve vztahu k dítěti je proces tabuizace umocněn, což se dotýká i literatury primárně určené dětskému recipientovi. V práci se zabýváme příčinami tohoto trendu s ohledem na historický vývoj. Provádíme analýzy vybraných knih, na nichž ilustrujeme, že není třeba se motivu smrti vyhýbat. V některých případech má význam v přímé konfrontaci dítěte se smrtí. Prostřednictvím výzkumné sondy si klademe za cíl prokázat, nebo vyvrátit hypotézu, že při setkání s dílem zobrazujícím sledovaný motiv, se postoj žáka ke smrti výrazně nemění. Četba těchto textů tedy nemá na dítě negativní dopad. Za vhodnou knihu pro realizaci výzkumné sondy považujeme dílo Bratří Lví srdce od Astrid Lindgrenové, kde se stává stěžejním tématem právě smrt. Část práce je věnována biblioterapii. Práce s knihou má totiž význam při prevenci nebo následné léčbě dětské úzkosti ze smrti.

Abstract:

The contemporary society tabooizes the theme of death and in relation to children is this process even emphasised which also influences the literature primarily focused on children?s readers. This thesis deals with this tendency with respect of the historical development. It analyses chosen books, which demonstrate that it is not necessary to avoid the theme of death and in certain cases that it can even have a certain importance in direct confrontation of the child with death. By means of experimental probe this thesis aims to prove or disprove hypothesis that when the pupil meets a book with this theme, its attitude does not markedly change. Therefore reading of these texts does not have a negative impact on the child. As a suitable text for realization of the research probe was chosen the book The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren, where death becomes the main theme. Part of the thesis is devoted to the bibliotherapy. Therefore the book can be used as a tool of prevention or of consecutive treatment of children?s death anxiety.
