Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus
Abstract:
Sarkofág Junia Bassa patří k nejvýznamnějším monumentům pozdně antického umění, datovaný díky inskripci do roku 359. Cílem této studie je na základě ikonologické analýzy interpretovat scény ve vztahu k zesnulému neofytovi a jeho potřebě křtu. Studie také klade otázky spojené s Nikajským vyznáním víry, neboť obrazy Krista na sarkofágu se nepochybně snaží definovat jeho Božskou podstatu.
Abstract:
Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus is one of the most important monuments of the late antiquity art and it’s dating is based on the inscription of 359. The main aim of this thesis is an iconological analysis to interpret the scenes related to the deceased neofitus and his need for baptism.
