Paris Peace Conference In the View of the Czech Daily Press

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá tím, jak vypadal a jakým způsobem byl konstruován mediální obraz pařížské mírové konference v roce 1919 ve dvou vybraných denících - Lidových novinách a Národních listech. Předmětem analýzy jsou úvodníky, které vyšly na titulních stranách vybraných deníků v období od začátku konference v lednu 1919 do konce června stejného roku. Cílem práce je odhalit a popsat jaké strategie, mechanismy a jazykové prostředky sloužily ke konstrukci mediálního obrazu konference, jaké ideologie, mocenské vztahy a instituce ovlivnily vytváření zmíněného obrazu ve vybraných denících a také jaké diskurzivní modely byly ve zkoumaných textech obsaženy. Metodu práce představuje kombinace diskurzivní analýzy Jamese Paula Geeho a modů operandi Johna B. Thompsona. První část práce se věnuje historickému kontextu, teoretickým východiskům a metodologii, druhá představuje samotný výzkum mediálního obrazu pařížské konference.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the depiction and way of construction of the media image of the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 in two selected daily newspapers, namely Lidové noviny and Národní listy. The subject of the analysis is the editorials which were published on the front pages of the selected daily newspapers in the period from the beginning of the Conference in January 1919 until the end of June of the same year. The aim of the work is to reveal and describe the strategies, mechanisms and language means which were used for the construction of the media image of the Conference, the ideologies, power relations and institutions which influenced the construction of the mentioned image in the selected daily newspapers, and discursive models which were included in the examined texts. The methodology of the work is represented by the combination of the discursive analysis by James Paul Gee and by modi operandi by John B. Thompson. The first part of the work is dedicated to the historical context, theoretical bases and methodology, and the second part introduces the research of the media image of the Paris Peace Conference.
