Sinai Counterinsurgency During Presidency of El-Sisi

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá protipovstaleckým bojem na Sinajském poloostrově. Na tento fenomén je nahlíženo za využití metody disciplinované interpretativní případové studie. Jako teoretický rámec k rozboru protipovstaleckých akcí slouží deset principů protipovstalectví z Britského armádního manuálu. Práce stručně charakterizuje povstalecké skupiny a jejich významné akce, stejně tak jako významné protipovstalecké operace. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, které z deseti principů protipovstaleckého boje jsou v případě Sinajského povstalectví využívány, a které nikoliv. Práce dochází k závěrům, že většina z principů protipovstaleckého boje není v Egyptě naplněna.

Abstract:

This master thesis is devoted to the research of counterinsurgency on the Sinai Peninsula. This phenomenon is reviewed using the disciplined interpretative case study method. Ten principles of counterinsurgency from the British Army Manual serve as a framework for the research. The thesis briefly characterises insurgent groups and their significant actions. Important counterinsurgency actions and operations are described as well. The objective of the thesis is to verify which of the ten principles of counterinsurgency are implemented in the case of the Sinai insurgency and which are not. The thesis concludes that most of the principles are not fulfilled in the case of Egypt.
