Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se soustředí na téma slovních hříček ve výuce angličtiny jako cizího jazyka na středních školách s důrazem na vyšší ročníky víceletých gymnázií. Snaží se odpovědět na otázku, zda žáci vyšších ročníků gymnázií rozumějí anglickým slovním hříčkám, jejich podstatě a víceznačnosti, a zdali je považují za humorné. Okrajově se práce také zabývá potenciálním využitím anglických slovních hříček jako prostředku pro výuku jiných oblastí jazyka jako například výslovnosti nebo slovní zásoby. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou část a výzkumnou část. V teoretické části je popsán kontext potřebný pro řádné pochopení výzkumné části. První sekcí teoretické části je oblast komunikace, porozumění významu a využití víceznačnosti v jazyce. Druhou sekcí je humor a slovní hříčky a jejich využití v oblasti vzdělávání. Navazující sekcí je metodologická část popisující vzdělávací proces v České republice, dále také sekce popisující osobu učitele a cílové skupiny žáků jakož i metodologii výzkumu. Výzkumná část prezentuje východiska výzkumu, způsoby sběru dat, provedení výzkumu v praxi a následnou analýzu získaných dat. Výsledky výzkumu a jeho praktické využití jsou shrnuty v závěrečné kapitole práce.

Abstract:

The present diploma thesis aims to pursue the topic of puns in EFL classes at Czech secondary grammar schools. The thesis intends to answer the question whether grammar school students understand puns in English, their essence and ambiguity of meanings and if they consider puns humorous. Secondly, the thesis aims to discover whether it is possible to use puns as an educational tool to teach other aspects of language such as pronunciation or vocabulary. The thesis is divided into a theoretical section and a research one. The theoretical section provides the necessary framework for understanding the research section. The first chapters of the theoretical section are dedicated to communication and meaning in general, its understanding and occurrence of ambiguity in language. The following chapters cover the topic of humour and puns and their use in ELT. Finally, last chapters provide the methodological background describing the educational process in the Czech Republic, the personality of the teacher and the target group of learners, as well as the methodology of the research. The research section presents the motivation for conducting the research, data collection methods and research execution followed by analysis of the collected data. Research findings are summarized in the final chapter and conclusion.
