The Value of Experiential Learning in an Intensive English Language Course

Abstract:

Tato práce má metodologický charakter a zabývá se hlavními principy teorie “flow” v souvislosti s dospělými studenty a zážitkovou pedagogikou. Pokouší se úspěšně demonstrovat hlavní typy a prvky intenzivních kurzů a zároveň vysvětluje jeijch hlavní znaky. Praktická část se pokouší zkouumat dvě skupiny studentů, které absolvovaly tento intenzivní kurz. Průzkum probíhá pomocí kavntitativního i kvalitativního dotazníkového dotazníkového šetření a na základě rozhvoru s účastníky. V závěru jsou výsledky šetření opět uvedeny v kontextu s teorií “flow”.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on a methodological field and deals with the general principles of "flow theory" with the focus on adult learners and experiential learning. It tries to succeed in demonstrating the main types and elements of intensive courses and the general characteristics of such courses are explained. The practical part examines two groups of students experiencing an intensive language course. The research is based on quantitative as well as qualitative questionnaire surveys and interviews with participants. In the end the principles of the theory of flow is put together with the course outcomes.
