Application of ecological management in hotels in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice ekologického hotelnictví v rámci České republiky. Cílem práce je analyzovat využití ekologického managementu ve vybraných hotelech v České republice а navrhnout novou metodiku uplatnění green managementu v hotelech podle vlastního konceptu “tří stadií ekologie” v hotelnictví. Dílčím cílem C1 je vymezit výhody green managementu a také problémy, spojené s jeho zaváděním do hotelového provozu. Druhým dílčím cílem práce C2 je identifikovat úroveň zkoumaných hotelů podle míry aplikace green managementu prostřednictvím zhodnocení uplatnění ekologických prvků v daných zařízeních. Z výsledků empirického průzkumu vyplynulo, že běžný systém rozčlenění hotelů pouze na standardní a ekologické certifikované vykazuje určitou nepružnost, rovněž poskytuje neplnohodnotné údaje ohledně počtu ekologicky přátelských hotelů v České republice. V návaznosti na zmíněný problém, byla navržena tzv. koncepce “tří stadií ekologie” v českém hotelnictví. Tato koncepce rozlišuje tři skupiny hotelů podle úrovně využití green managementu. Jsou to standardní hotely, necertifikované a certifikované ekohotely. Návrh spočívá v doplnění základního systému dělení hotelů o důležitý mezičlánek v podobě ekologických hotelů bez certifikace. Druhý stupeň uplatnění green managementu představuje pomyslný “můstek”, umožňující postupný přechod hotelů s běžným provozem do řad ekologicky přátelských hotelů. V souvislosti s daným rozdělením je předložen návrh určitých doporučení pro každou z výše zmíněných skupin hotelů. Zvláštní pozornost je však věnována skupině necertifikovaných zelených hotelů, a to včetně návrhu Ekologických osvědčení III., II. a I. stupně. Využití aktuálních trendů a celosvětových zkušeností v oblasti ekologického hotelnictví, jež jsou též součástí této práce, by mohlo pro české hoteliéry představovat určitou hodnotu. Autorka došla k závěru, že je uplatnění ekologického managementu v českém hotelnictví klíčovým faktorem pro zlepšení environmentální situace nejen v zemi, nýbrž i na celé planetě. Mimořádný význam má v dané problematice hlubší přesvědčení českých hoteliérů o správnosti zelené cesty a také iniciativy budování udržitelné budoucnosti. To samé platí pro hotelové zákazníky a klienty, kteří by měli být motivováni k šetrnému chování vůči společnému životnímu prostředí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the issue of ecological hospitality industry within the Czech Republic. Its aim is to analyze the application of environmental management in selected hotels in the Czech Republic аnd propose a new methodology for the application of green management in hotels according to the own concept of "three stages of ecology" in the hotel industry. A partial goal C1 is to define advantages of green management and problems of its implementation in the hotel operations. The second partial objective C2 is to identify the level of investigated hotels on environmental management application rate through the evaluation of ecological elements’ implementation in these accommodation facilities. The results of empirical research showed that the conventional separation system of hotels only on standard and eco - certified ones evinces certain inflexibility and provides inaccurate information regarding the number of environmentally friendly hotels in the Czech Republic. As a follow-up to the aforementioned problem there has been proposed so called concept of "three stages of ecology" in the Czech hospitality industry. This approach distinguishes three hotel groups by identifying the level of green management implementation. They are standard hotels, uncertified and certified ecohotels. The suggestion is to supplement the basic classification system of hotels with an important connecting link in the form of ecohotels without certification. The second stage of green management implementation is a peculiar "bridge", allowing a gradual transition for non - ecological hotels to go to the ranks of environmentally friendly hotels. In connection with this division the proposal has some recommendations and measures for each of the hotel groups mentioned above. Particular attention is paid to the group of uncertified green hotels, including the suggestion of Ecological certification of the III., II. and I. grade. The use of current trends and global experience in the field of ecological hospitality, included in this dissertation as well, may represent a certain value for the Czech hoteliers. The author concludes that the application of ecological management in the Czech hotel industry is a key factor to improve environmental situation not only in the country, but on the entire planet as well. The particular importance in this issue has the Czech hoteliers’ deep belief in the correctness of green way and active participation in building sustainable future. The same goes for hotel customers and clients, who should be encouraged to take a responsible attitude towards our common environment.
