The Use of the Passive Voice in the Administrative Style

Anotácia:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou pasiva v administrativním stylu, zejména v administrativních dokumentech Evropské Unie. Ukazuje celkovou distribuci pasiva v těchto dokumentech a určuje druh pasiva, který je používán s vysokou frekvencí. Výzkum je zároveň zaměřen na speciální charakteristiku pasiva a snaží se určit nejpoužívanější český ekvivalent. Celá práce zároveň umožňuje detailní pohled na vytváření administrativních textů v Evropské Unii, zejména právě na používání pasiva. V neposlední řadě celý výzkum může přispět do výuky anglického jazyka, neboť jeho výsledky představují pasivní konstrukce, které nejsou zcela obvyklé v českém jazyce, přičemž je navržen způsob výuky pasiva tak, aby byl zcela přirozený.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the analysis of the passives in the administrative style, especially in the administrative documents of the European Union. It shows the overall distribution of the passives in these documents and identifies the most frequent kind of the passive. The thesis also explores special characteristics of the passives and investigates the commonest Czech equivalents. The whole examination of the passives provides insights into the way of processing language in the European Union, particularly the use of the passive. The research also contributes to English language teaching because its outcomes can be beneficial to teachers as it introduces not only entirely unknown passive constructions, but it also provides clues how to teach the passive in a class naturally.
