Design of Methodological Materials for Teaching Selected Topics from Genetics in Health Education

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřená na rozšíření metodických podkladů pro učitele Výchovy ke zdraví nebo Přírodopisu na druhém stupni na téma genetika. Práce má dvě části: teoretické podklady a metodiku k výukovému programu „Gen a já“. Teoretická část je zaměřena na podklady pro učitele, aby měli rozšíření potřebných odborných znalostí pro uvedení programu. Je nezbytné, aby uvádějící učitel měl základní znalosti z biologie. V kapitolách jsou postupně pospané základy genetiky, od základních principů, které pomohl popsat Johan Gregor Mendel. Dále zde jsou kapitoly, které se věnují: DNA, chromozomům, buněčnému cyklu, tvorbě rodokmenů a geneticky podmíněné nemoci. Druhá část práce je návrh metodiky k programu Gen a Já. Program je určený pro žáky 8. nebo 9. ročníku základní školy. Celý program je postavený v modelu E-U-R, který vychází z konceptu Čtením a psaní ke kritickému myšlení, a vede žáky k aktivitě a vyvozování myšlenek, které následně sdílí se skupinou. Koncept programu je poskládaný tak, aby učitel ho buď mohl učit 3,5 hodiny v kuse s přestávkou anebo se dá rozdělit na 4 vyučovací hodiny (45 min.), které na sebe navazují a učitel je začlení ve svých hodinách Výchova ke zdraví. V programu se žáci na začátku seznámí s životem Johanem Gregorem Mendelem, který popsal základní principy dědičnosti, na kterých byla v následujícím století postaveny základy nové vědy – genetiky. Během dalších aktiv se postupně žáci dostanou do jádra buňky, kde se seznámí s buněčným dělením, chromozomy a DNA. Následuje aktivita při, které žáci simulují oplození – splynutí pohlavních gamet. Po splynutí gamet se žáci zabývají dědičností jednotlivých znaků a jejich fenotypovými projevy. Znaky, které jsou při této aktivitě kombinovány, jsou: pohlaví, schopnost srolovat jazyk do písmene U, krevní skupina (AB0) a barva vlasů, která je podmíněna kombinací více genů. Druhá polovina programu je věnována rodokmenu, kde se žáci seznámí se základními principy, jak se rodokmen skládá a jaké jsou pravidla pro jeho tvorbu. Vytvoří si vlastní rodokmen své rodiny a hledají společné znaky, které mají se svými rodiči. Na konci práce v přílohách jsou potřebné grafické podklady, které si učitel před hodinou připraví a může je používat.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the extension of methodological materials for secondary school teachers on the topic of genetics. The thesis has two parts: theoretical background and methodology for the educational program "Gene and Me". The theoretical part is focused on materials for teachers with the aim of expanding the necessary professional knowledge for the introduction of the program. It is necessary that the presenting teacher has basic knowledge of biology. Chapters gradually explain the basics of genetics, starting with the basic principles described by Johan Gregor Mendel. There are also chapters devoted to DNA, chromosomes, cell cycle, hair colour, genealogy tree formation and genetic diseases. The second part of the thesis is the methodology for the program "Gene and Me". The program is designed for students of the 8th or 9th year of secondary school. The whole program is based on the E-U-R model, which is based on the concept of "Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking", and leads students to activity and deduction of ideas, which they subsequently share with a group. The concept of the program is arranged in such a way that the teacher can teach it either 3.5 hours in a row with a break, or it can be divided into 4 blocks (45 minutes), which are linked to each other, and the teacher incorporates them in their lessons. At the beginning of the program, students get acquainted with Johan Gregor Mendel, who described the basic principles of heredity, on which the foundations of a new science – genetics – were built in the following century. Throughout other activities, students gradually get to the nucleus of a cell, where they get familiar with cell division, chromosomes, and DNA. This is followed by an activity in which students simulate fertilization – the fusion of sexual gametes. After the fusion of gametes, students pursue the heredity of individual characteristics and their phenotypic manifestations. The characteristics combined in this activity are gender, the ability to roll the tongue into the letter U shape, blood groups (A, B, AB and 0), and hair colour, which is conditioned by the combination of multiple genes. The second half of the program is focused on a genealogy tree; students are introduced to the basic principles of how a genealogy tree is composed and what are the rules for its creation. They create their own family tree and look for common characteristics they have with their parents. In the attachment at the end of the thesis, there are necessary graphic materials available that the teacher prepares before the lesson and can use throughout.
