Friends with benefits in adult attachment context

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo zmapovat vztahy přátelé s výhodami v kontextu citové vazby. Jako doplňující nezávislé proměnné byly do výzkumu zahrnuty rodinná struktura, studium na vysoké škole a míra závazku. Výzkum byl koncipován kvantitativně s otevřenými otázkami pro zjištění vnímání významu vztahu přátelé s výhodami a jejich výhod/nevýhod. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 360 osob ve věku 20 až 26 let. Data byla získána prostřednictvím internetového dotazníku, ve kterém byly použity české verze škál ECR (Experiences in Close Relationships) a IMS (Investment Model Scale). Výsledky ukázaly, že pojem přátelé s výhodami je v českém prostředí známý, alespoň jeden vztah přátelé s výhodami mělo 39 % respondentů. Jako nejčastější výhody těchto vztahů byly uváděny nezávaznost, svoboda a sex. Jako nejčastější nevýhody byly uváděny především strach, že kamarád bude chtít partnerský vztah, a absence lásky. Statistická analýza objevila, že vyhýbaví jedinci utváří vztah přátelé s výhodami méně než lidé s nižší mírou vyhýbavosti. Lidé, kteří nikdy nenavštěvovali vysokou školu, častěji utvářeli vztah přátelé s výhodami a měli v průměru více těchto vztahů než ti, kteří studují nebo studovali na vysoké škole. Ukázalo se, že lidé, kteří cítí vyšší míru závazku ve vztahu přátelé s výhodami, si přejí, aby se tento vztah změnil na vážný. Výsledky otevírají prostor pro další analýzu vztahů přátelé s výhodami v českém prostředí.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to explore friends with benefits relationships in an adult attachment context. As supplementary independent variables, the family structure, college study and commitment were al-so included into the research. The research design was quantitative with open-ended questions about the perception of friends with benefits relationships meaning and their advantages/disadvantages. Research sample was assembled from 360 respondents between ages of 20 to 26 years. Data were obtained via an online survey. The questionnaire contained Czech versions of ECR (Experiences in Close Relationships) and IMS (Investment Model Scale). The results showed the concept of friends with benefits is known, friends with benefits relationships were experienced by 39 % of respondents at least once. Freedom, sex and absence of commitment were stated as the most common advantages. Fear from a partner’s wish to have a romantic relationship and lack of love were stated as the most common disadvantages. Statistical analysis discovered avoidant people participated more often in friends with benefits relationships than those with a lower level of avoidance. Respondents who never attended college participated more often in friends with benefits relationships and had an average of more friends with benefits relationships than college students. People with higher level of commitment in friends with benefits relationships wanted to have that relationship to be romantic. These results open space for further analysis of friends with benefits relationships.
