The Revenants in Czech Literature and Folk Habits

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o problematice revenantů. Zabývá se jimi, jak v problematice náboženské (křesťanské), tak literární. První část práce porovnává revenanty s dalšími nočními bytostmi a vyzdvihuje rozdíly, které revenanty charakterizují. Odpovídá na otázky, proč se duše po smrti může stát revenantem a dokazuje to na příkladech názorně ukázaných v pověstech z českého území. V další části nám práce vysvětluje rozdíly mezi mýtickou a literární postavou. Ukazuje nám, na dvou poetických textech od různých autorů devatenáctého století, rozdílný přístup a využití revenantů. Lidovou a autorskou pohádkou, které jsou opět názorně zobrazeny na příkladech pohádkových textů. Třetí část práce se zabývá přístupem náboženství (křesťanství) k umírání a smrti. Jakožto i věcem následujícím. Osvětluje nám roli náboženských bratrstev a nastiňuje přibližný vývoj postupů pohřbívání. Vysvětluje a popisuje lidové tradice a zvyklosti spojené s umíráním, smrtí a následným pohřbíváním.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the issue of revenants. It deals with them as in the issue of religion (Christianity) as literature. The first part compares revenants with other nocturnal creatures and highlights the differences that characterize the revenants. It answers the questions why a soul after death can become a revenant and proves it in the examples clearly illustrated in the legends of the Czech territory. In the next section the work explains the differences between a mythical and literary character. It shows us in two poetic texts by different authors of the 19th century, a different approach and use of revenants. A folk and an authorial fairy tale which are again depicted illustratively in the examples of fairy texts. The third part deals with the approach of religion (Christianity) to dying and death. As well as the following things. It illuminates the role of religious brotherhoods and outlines the approximate development of methods of burials. It explains and describes folk traditions and customs associated with dying, deaths and subsequent burials.
