Metacognitive Strategies as a Means of Expanding the Responsibility of Nursing Students During Clinical Practice

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce zkoumá vztah mezi metakognitivními strategiemi a odpovědností studentů ošetřovatelství při praxi v nemocnici. Teoretická část předkládá vybraná epistemologická východiska zkoumání odpovědnosti, vymezuje pojem odpovědnost z různých pohledů, objasňuje co jsou metakognice a jak je lze aplikovat do výuky. Zabývá se také morálním vývojem jedince. Cílem práce je zjistit, uvědomují-li si studenti svou odpovědnost za profesionální poskytnutí ošetřovatelské péče během praxe v nemocnici, jestli při svém učení používají metakognitivní strategie a také jak vnímají jejich odpovědnost sestry, pod jejichž vedením studenti pracují. K objasnění cílů byly použity tyto metody: dotazník, deníky, pozorování, individuální rozhovor a skupinový rozhovor. Ve výzkumném šetření vycházím z toho, že pravidelný a systematický nácvik metakognitivních strategií vede k posílení odpovědnosti u studentů a uvědomění si následků jejich počínání při interakci s pacientem. V profesi zdravotnického pracovníka je odpovědnost hlavním předpokladem bezpečné péče o pacienty, proto jsou na základě výsledků šetření navrženy možnosti řešení pro praxi, která by přispěla ke zvýšení odpovědnosti studentů a tím ke zvýšení kvality ošetřovatelské péče.

Abstract:

The present dissertation studies the relationship between metacognitive strategies and responsibilities of nursing students during their nursing practice in the hospital. The theoretical part provides selected epistemological grounds for examining responsibility, defines the term responsibility from different points of view, clarifying what metacognitions are and how they can be applied to teaching. It also discusses the moral development of individuals. The goal is to find out if students recognize their responsibilities for professional nursing care during their practice in hospital, whether nurses, under whose guidance the students work, apply metacognitive strategies in teaching, and how the nurses perceive their responsibility. The following methods were used to clarify the objectives: questionnaires, diaries, observation, individual interviews and group interviews. The research work stems from the fact that regular and systematic training of metacognitive strategies results in strengthening students´ responsibilities and in awareness of the consequences of their actions when interacting with patients. In medical profession, responsibility is the key prerequisite for safe patient care, and thus, on the basis of survey results, possible solutions for practice are provided, which should contribute to increasing students´ responsibility and through this also improving the nursing care quality.
