Bakufu and the Meiji restoration in the Czech press

Abstract:

The subject of the research of this bachelor's thesis is to determine what kind of information about the revolutionary events in Japan appeared in Czech press in the years from 1853 to 1870, and to what extent the Czech reader could be acquainted with the changes in Japanese state system. It primarily focuses on articles about bakufu and the Meiji restoration. Next, it will assess the accuracy and completeness of the published information. In the first part, the work describes the historical circumstances that allowed to inform about the events of such a distant country as Japan. Next, the explanation of terminology is followed by the main part of the work, which chronologically divides the defined period into two subchapters. In these the articles are divided into thematic units and in the case of incomplete or incorrect information in the citations, the information is supplemented by historical sources. The last chapter deals with the analysis of the mentioned articles and assesses how the Czech press reported on the events in Japan.

Abstract:

Predmetom výskumu tejto bakalárskej práce je určiť, aké informácie o revolučnom dianí v Japonsku prenikali v rokoch 1853 až 1870 do českej tlače a do akej miery tak mohol byť český čitateľ oboznámený o zmenách v jeho štátnom zriadení. Primárne sa tak sústredí hlavne na články so zameraním na bakufu a reštauráciu Meidži. Ako ďalšie posúdi správnosť a úplnosť uverejnených správ. V prvej časti sa práca venuje historickým okolnostiam, ktoré v danej dobe umožnili informovať o udalostiach v tak vzdialenej krajine, akou je Japonsko. Po vysvetlení terminológie nasleduje ústredná časť práce, ktorá chronologicky rozdeľuje vymedzené obdobie do dvoch podkapitol. V nich sú články rozdelené do tematických celkov a v prípade neúplných alebo nesprávnych informácií v uvedených citáciách sú informácie doplnené historickými zdrojmi. Posledná kapitola sa venuje analýze spomenutých článkov a posúdi, akým spôsobom referovala česká tlač o udalostiach v Japonsku.
