The issue of euthanasia from the point of view of current society

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem mé práce bylo zjistit názory veřejnosti na problematiku eutanazie a dále zjistit faktory, které by tyto názory mohly ovlivnit. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 150 respondentů. Průzkum byl proveden na území města Havířova. Sběr dat proběhl v lednu a únoru 2010. Dotazníkové šetření proběhlo pomocí nestandardizovaných dotazníků, které obsahovaly celkem 20 otázek. Výsledky: Šetřením bylo zjištěno, že dotazovaní občané eutanazii spíše schvalovali, ale také často zaujímali nejednoznačný postoj. Malé procento dotázaných eutanazii neschvalovalo. Odpůrci eutanazie ji nejčastěji vnímali jako zabití nevinného člověka. Ostatní respondenti považovali eutanazii za osvobození od utrpení. Nejčastějším důvodem pro žádost o eutanazii byla podle dotazovaných nesnesitelná bolest. Rozhodnout o své předčasné smrti by měl pacient. Respondenti by využili možnosti eutanazie pro sebe či blízké, někteří dotázaní neví a malé procento osob by tuto možnost nevyužilo. Dotázaní znali státy, kde se eutanazie provádí ze určitých podmínek. Nejznámější z tolerujících států bylo Holandsko. Respondenti byli ve větším počtu pro legalizaci eutanazie, ale obávali se rizika jejího zneužití. Nejvíce informací o eutanazii bylo získáno z televize. Respondenti, také uvedli, že je eutanazie zajímá. Při zkoumání faktorů, které by mohly ovlivnit názory na problematiku eutanazie, byly zjištěny jen malé, ale ne zásadní rozdíly ve zkoumaných kategoriích. Závěr: Pohled každého člověk na tuto problematiku je zcela individuální. Jedná se o velmi diskutabilní a složité téma. Každý by měl mít možnost vyslovit svůj názor na tuto problematiku.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of my thesis was to detect opinions of the public on the issue of euthanasia and to find out what factors could influence these opinions. Methodology: The research population consisted of 150 respondents. Research was carried out in Havirov city. The data collecting was realized in January and February 2010. The information was gathered by non-standardized questionnaires which consisted of 20 questions. Results: The research concluded that the questioned people approved of euthanasia but they often had ambiguous standpoints too. Minimum of questioned people disapproved of euthanasia. Opponents of euthanasia most frequently perceived it as a killing of an innocent human. Other respondents considered euthanasia as an exemption from suffering. The most frequent reason for request for euthanasia was unbearable pain. They also thought that the patient should decide about his or her death. Respondents would use euthanasia for themselves or their family, some don't know and a small number of respondents wouldn't use euthanasia. Respondents knew the states where euthanasia is used under certain conditions. The Netherlands was the best known of these states. The majority of respondents agreed on the legalization of euthanasia but they were afraid of the abuse of euthanasia. The respondents got the majority of information from the television. Problems of euthanasia interest the questioned people. While searching for factors that can influence views on euthanasia there were found only small but not fundamental differences. Conclusion: The view on the issue of euthanasia is very individual. It is very complicated and controversial topic. Everyone should have a chance to say their own opinion on this issue.
