Semi-longitudinal study of the composition of human body focusing on the fat component in preschool and younger school age children

Abstract:

Body composition assessment of children is currently the subject of many studies in the context of the global prevalence of overweight and obesity. The theoretical part of this work tries to provide a brief overview of knowledge about the fat component of the human body and the changes in composition that occur in childhood. It also describes the basic models of body composition and methods of its evaluation. The evaluation of the body composition in the future in connection with advanced technologies is part of separate part of the chapter. In the practical part, the nutritional status was determined with a focus on the fat component in 58 preschool children. Individual curves were constructed from measured values of body height, weight, skin fold thickness above the biceps, above the triceps, suprailiac and subscapular skin folds. From the sum of the four skin folds and the proportion of the fat component, common curves were created separately for 3.00-5.99 year old girls and boys. The values of the first measurement were compared with reference values obtained from population-wide anthropological research focused on the pediatric population. Selected parameters were also compared between girls and boys who participated in the research. The values of body height and weight measured by us do not differ significantly from the reference values. The girls from our research had statistically higher values of subscapular skin fold, the sum of skin folds and the proportion of the fat component compared to the boys. They did not differ significantly in the thickness of the remaining skin folds.

Abstract:

Hodnocení výživového stavu dětí je dnes v souvislosti s globálně rozšířeným stavem nadváhy a obezity předmětem mnoha studií. Teoretická část této práce se snaží přinést stručný přehled poznatků o tukové komponentě lidského těla a o změnách složení, které nastávají do období dětství. Dále popisuje základní modely tělesného složení a metody jeho hodnocení. Samostatnou podkapitolu tvoří hodnocení těla v budoucnosti v souvislosti s pokročilými technologiemi. V praktické části byl zjišťován výživový stav se zaměřením na tukovou složku u 58 dětí předškolního věku. Byly zkonstruovány individuální křivky z naměřených hodnot tělesné výšky, hmotnosti, tloušťky kožní řasy nad bicepsem, nad tricepsem, suprailiakální a subskapulární kožní řasy. Ze součtu čtyř kožních řas a z podílu tukové složky byly vytvořeny společné křivky zvláště pro 3,00-5,99 leté dívky a chlapce. Hodnoty prvního měření byly porovnány s referenčními hodnotami získanými z rozsáhlých antropologických výzkumů zaměřených na dětskou populaci. Také byly porovnávány vybrané parametry mezi dívkami a chlapci, kteří se zúčastnili výzkumu. Námi naměřené hodnoty tělesné výšky a hmotnosti se statisticky významně neliší od referenčních hodnot. Dívky z našeho výzkumu měly ve srovnání s chlapci statisticky významně vyšší hodnoty tloušťky subskapulární kožní řasy, součtu kožních řas a podílu tuku. V tloušťce zbylých kožních řas se významně nelišily.
