Motivation of Elementary School Pupils Through Games when Teaching English Language

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou motivace žáků na druhém stupni základní školy ve výuce anglického jazyka za použití didaktických her. Jedná se o teoreticko-aplikační typ práce. Cílem diplomové práce je vybrat a upravit didaktické hry, které by v sobě měly nést motivační prvek k učení a zájmu o anglický jazyk. Následně tyto hry aplikovat ve výuce a vyhodnotit naplnění jejich předpokládaného účelu z úhlu pohledu vyučujícího (autora práce) i samotných žáků, kteří se aplikace těchto didaktických her zúčastnili. Teoretická část vymezuje rámec celé práce, který se zaměřuje na motivaci, motivaci ve školním prostředí, hru, didaktickou hru a didaktickou jazykovou hru ve výuce cizího jazyka. Aplikační část práce zahrnuje výběr a úpravu jednotlivých didaktických her, jejich aplikaci ve výuce a vyhodnocení.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the motivation of lower secondary school pupils in English language teaching using didactic games. It is a theoretical-application type of thesis. The aim of the thesis is to select and modify didactic games which should motivate pupils to learn and be interested in the English language. Then to apply these games in teaching and evaluate the fulfilment of their intended purpose from the perspective of the teacher (the author of the thesis) and the pupils themselves who participated in the application of these didactic games. The theoretical part defines the framework of the whole thesis which focuses on motivation, motivation in a school environment, games, didactic games and didactic language games in foreign language teaching. The application part of the thesis includes the selection and modification of individual didactic games, their application in teaching and evaluation.
