Regional publishing house Blok on the background of cultural and political development of the second half of the 20th century

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo popsat fungování krajského nakladatelství Blok a jeho publikační činnost v kontextu vývoje a proměn kultury a kulturní politiky druhé poloviny 20. století. Samotné jádro práce tkví v zachycení historie nakladatelství Blok a v jeho nakladatelských aktivitách především v letech 1957-1997. Zvláštní pozornost je pak věnována vydávání mladých autoru v Bloku. V tomto případě se často propojovala u některých redaktorů práce umělecká (byli často autory básní nebo prózy, jež vycházela v Bloku) s jejich prací profesní. Samostatnou linií bylo vydávání časopisů a almanachů počínaje prvním Dokořán z roku 1957 a konče Listem pro literaturu v letech 1990-1991, který mimo své literárněvědné profilace dával prostor i mladým tvůrcům. Práce také rozebírá vydávání literatury pro děti a mládež a práce výtvarníků, ilustrátorů a typografů spolupracujících s Blokem.

Abstract:

The goal of our thesis is to describe functioning of regional publishing house Blok in Brno and its publication activities in the context of development and transformations of culture and cultural policy of the second half of the 20th century. The goal as such lies in capturing the history of Blok and its publishing activities in years 1957–1997. Special attention is paid to publishing young authors at Blok. In this case art work of some editors was frequently connected with their professional orientation (they themselves were often authors of poems or prose which were published at Blok). Individual line was represented by publishing literary reviews and anthologies starting from the first „Dokořán“ in 1957 to „List pro literaturu“ in years 1990–1991 that apart from its literary science orientation also gave space to young authors. In our thesis we also focus to publishing literature for children and youth and what is definitely worth mentioning as well is work of designers, illustrators and typographers.
