The Age as a Performance Determinant of the Rescue Profession

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na zjištění postojů členů výjezdových posádek Zdravotnické záchranné služby (ZZS) Zlín k problematice dlouhodobého výkonu povolání zejména ve vyšším věku, tj. těsně před odchodem do důchodu. Teoretická část práce charakterizuje na pozadí ekonomických, legislativních a organizačních podmínek systém fungování záchranné služby v České republice, specifikuje způsob financování, předmět a náplň činnosti jednotlivých úseků instituce. Následující kapitoly popisují náročnost povolání členů výjezdových skupin, představují pojem stresového zatížení v profesi a riziko burnout syndromu v závislosti na věku a délce praxe pracovníků. Praktická část práce se opírá o kvalitativní výzkumné šetření. Data získaná pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru od celkem osmi respondentů na pracovních pozicích řidič záchranář a zdravotnický záchranář byla následně podrobena analýze podle principů zakotvené teorie. Výsledky analýzy ukazují, že pracovníci výjezdových skupin disponují velkou odolností proti stresové zátěži, jsou silně vnitřně motivováni svou profesí. Limitem pro setrvání nebo pokračování v současné profesi bude následný vývoj jejich zdravotního stavu především z hlediska opakující se fyzické zátěže.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on finding the attitudes of the Emergency Medical Services Zlín (EMS) ambulance’s crew’s members about the issue of long-term practice of their profession, especially in their advanced years, i.e. just before the retirement. On the background of the economic, legal and organizational conditions, the theoretical part of the thesis describes the emergency services functioning in Czech Republic, specifies the method of financing, subject and scope of activities of individual sections of the institution. The following chapters describe the members ambulance team’s profession seriousness, represent the stress load’s concept in the profession and the burnout syndrome’s risk depending on age and length of the workers experience. The thesis’s practical part is based on a qualitative research. Then the data obtained through semi-structured interviews of eight respondents at the paramedic driver and a paramedic positions were analysed according to the principles of the grounded theory. The analysis results show that the ambulance groups workers are highly resistant to stress load and are strongly internally motivated by their profession. The limit for remaining or continuing in the present profession will be the subsequent development of their health, especially in terms of the repetitive physical stress.
