Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism in the City of Karlovy Vary and the possibility of its revitalisation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na dopad pandemie COVID-19 na cestovní ruch v Karlových Varech a možnost jeho revitalizace. V roce 2020 celý svět zachvátila pandemie v souvislosti s šířením onemocnění COVID-19. Pandemie COVID-19 ovlivnila všechny aspekty lidského života, včetně mezinárodního cestování a dosavadního pojetí a fungování cestovního ruchu. V teoretické části práce je popsána problematika cestovního ruchu, popis vzniku a průběhu pandemie COVID-19 v České republice a současné trendy v cestování, které se utvořily během probíhající pandemie COVID-19 v roce 2020. V úvodu analytické části práce se nachází metodika práce, dle které autor postupoval při vypracování analytické části diplomové práce. Obsahem analytické části práce je představení města Karlovy Vary a analýza, deskripce a komparace dopadu pandemie COVID-19 na cestovní ruch v Karlových Varech. Jednotlivé kapitoly se zaměřují na komparaci výše návštěvnosti Karlových Varů před a po vypuknutí pandemie COVID-19, deskripci úrovně poskytovaných služeb cestovního ruchu během pandemie, propagaci a podporu cestovního ruchu, digitalizaci cestovního ruchu a revitalizaci cestovního ruchu v Karlových Varech. Návrhová část diplomové práce zahrnuje pět návrhů možné revitalizace a rozvoje cestovního ruchu v Karlových Varech. Návrhy jsou rozděleny do dvou skupin. První skupina návrhů je vytvořena na základě výsledků dotazníkového šetření a druhá skupina je zpracována dle poznatků a závěrů jednotlivých kapitol analytické části diplomové práce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism in Karlovy Vary and the possibility of its revitalization. In 2020, a pandemic spread around the world in connection with the spread of COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of human life, including international travel and the current conception and functioning of tourism. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the issue of tourism, a description on the origin and course of the pandemic COVID-19 in the Czech Republic and current trends in travel, which formed during the on-going pandemic COVID-19 in 2020. In the introduction to the analytical part of the work is the methodology of the work, according to which the author proceeded to develop the analytical part of the thesis. The content of the analytical part of the work is a presentation of the city of Karlovy Vary and analysis, description and comparison of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism in Karlovy Vary. The individual chapters focus on the comparison of the number of visitors to Karlovy Vary before and after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a description of the level of tourism services provided during the pandemic, tourism promotion and support, tourism digitalization and tourism revitalization in Karlovy Vary. The design part of the diploma thesis includes five proposals for possible revitalization and development of tourism in Karlovy Vary. The proposals are divided into two groups. The first group of proposals is created on the basis of the results of a questionnaire survey and the second group is processed according to findings and conclusions of individual chapters of the analytical part of the thesis.
