Mild cognitive impairment in relation to socio-demographic factors

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou mírné kognitivní poruchy (MCI), což je stav, kdy dochází k deficitu kognitivních funkcí nad fyziologické změny stárnutí, ale zároveň jedinec zůstává soběstačný. Cílem této práce bylo vytýčit rizikové socio-demografické faktory této poruchy, následně je statisticky vyhodnotit a zhodnotit vliv na rozvoj MCI. Teoretická část v úvodu vysvětluje význam kognitivních funkcí a stručně přibližuje kognitivní poruchy, jejich diagnostiku a rizikové faktory. Praktická část diplomové práce se zaměřuje na statistické vyhodnocení dat získaných v rámci prospektivní studie "TAČR Projekt ZETA ZJ04000059 Zlepšení kvality života včasným záchytem nedoslýchavosti pomocí vysokofrekvenční audiometrie", která byla realizována v letech 2020 a 2021 v Ostravě. Výsledný soubor obsahuje 443 respondentů, z toho 221 mužů a 222 žen, průměrný věk souboru je 40 let (SD 13,71). K analýze dat byl využit software MS Office Excel a veřejně dostupný statistický program OPEN EPI. Bylo zvoleno 12 faktorů, na které se zaměřoval dotazník předkládaný respondentům, ty byly statisticky otestovány na hladině významnosti 5 % za použití Chí square, ANOVA a t-testu. Z hodnocených 12 faktorů byla u 5 z nich zjištěna statisticky významná souvislost s MCI, a to u věku, dosaženého vzdělání, počtu přátel, zaměstnání a kouření. Bylo zjištěno, že u lidí s nižším vzděláním; exkuřáků; osob s nižším počtem přátel a osob v důchodu je patrný významně vyšší výskyt MCI.

Abstract:

The present thesis deals with the issue of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition in which there is a deficit in cognitive function beyond the physiological changes of aging, but at the same time the individual remains self-sufficient. The aim of this study was to identify the socio-demographic risk factors for this disorder, statistically evaluate them and estimate their impact on the development of MCI. The theoretical part in the introduction explains the importance of cognitive function and briefly reviews cognitive impairment, how it's diagnosed and risk factors. The practical part of the study focuses on the statistical evaluation of the data obtained in the prospective study "TAČR Project ZETA ZJ04000059 Improvement of quality of life through early detection of hearing loss using high-frequency audiometry", which was conducted in Ostrava in 2020 and 2021. The resulting sample consists of 443 respondents, 221 men and 222 women, with an average age of 40 years (SD 13.71). MS Office Excel and the publicly available statistical programme OPEN EPI were used for data analysis. Twelve factors were selected, to be the focus of the questionnaire presented to the respondents and statistically tested using chi-square, ANOVA and t-test at the 5% significance level. Five of the 12 factors, namely age, education, number of friends, occupation and smoking, were found to be statistically significantly associated with MCI.It was found that people with less education, ex-offenders, people with fewer friends and retired people had a significantly higher prevalence of MCI.
