Male social work employees by the perspective of their female colleagues

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá pohledem žen v sociálních službách na jejich mužské kolegy. Konkrétně se zaměřuje na to, jaké genderové rozdíly a stereotypy ženy v sociálních službách vnímají, jaké rozdíly vidí mezi muži a ženami a jaké jsou jejich zkušenosti s muži a ženami na pracovišti. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo pomocí kvalitativního sběru dat. Využitou technikou byly polostrukturované rozhovory. Výzkumným souborem bylo 9 pracovnic v sociálních službách a 3 sociální pracovnice z různých oblastí sociálních služeb a z různých krajů České republiky. Rozhovory probíhaly od září 2022 do listopadu 2022. Výsledná data byla pomocí kódování zpracována do 5 kategorií a 19 kódů. Pro širší kontext výzkumu jsou v této práci využívány odborné texty věnující se pohlaví a genderu, genderovým rolím a stereotypům, sociální práci, trhu práce a dalším dílčím tématům. Závěrem je identifikace genderových stereotypů v sociálních službách a navržení témat pro osvětu a vzdělávání v této profesi. V rámci práce bylo zjištěno, že genderové stereotypy, které se objevují v literatuře jsou stále zřetelné i v názorech žen pracujících v sociálních službách. Muži jsou popisováni jako silní, autoritativní ale nepořádní, zatímco ženy jako empatické, pečlivé ale hašteřivé. Respondentky stereotypy ve společnosti vnímají, přestože odmítají, že by se s nimi osobně setkávaly. S mužskými kolegy mají dobré zkušenosti a přejí si, aby jich v sociálních službách pracovalo více. K dosáhnutí tohoto cíle kladou důraz na větší edukaci a zvyšování povědomí o sociální práci a mužské pozici v ní.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis explores the subject of men in social work by the perspective of their women colleagues. The particular focus is on the gender differences and stereotypes that women in social work perceive, the differences that they see between men and women and what are their experiences working with them. The research for this text uses qualitative data collection. The technique used is a semi-structured interview. The sample includes 9 women working in social services and 3 social workers from different fields of social work and from different areas of Czechia. The interviews took place from September 2022 until November 2022. Coding was used to label and organize the resulting data into 5 categories and 19 codes. This thesis uses scholarly texts about gender, gender roles and stereotypes, social work, labour market, and others for the further context of the research. The conclusion includes the identification of gender stereotypes in social work and propositions for future education in this area of study. This thesis concludes, that gender stereotypes frequently appearing in literature are still distinct in opinions of women working in social services. Men are described as strong, authoritative but disorderly, while women are described as empathetic, precise but disputative. Respondents observe gender stereotypes in society, however, they deny ever having encountered them personally. They express good experiences with men colleagues and they wish that more of them worked in social services. To reach this objective, they emphasize raising awareness about social work and men's place in this field.
