Analysis of bark beetle occurrence and forest disintegration in Jeseníky PLA

Abstract:

K analýze lýkožrouta smrkového a rozpadu lesa v Chráněné krajinné oblasti Jeseníky bylo využito metod dálkového průzkumu Země. Vyhodnocení probíhalo v programu ArcMap 10 od společnosti ESRI z leteckých ortofot. Letecké snímky byly pořízeny v letech 2000 a 2004 a to ve viditelné a blízké infračervené části spektra záření. Při jejich zpracovávání se projevily technické nedostatky jednotlivých snímků, které znemožnily vyhodnocení časové řady, z toho důvodu nemohla být provedena analýza rozpadu lesa. Blízké infračervené záření je často využíváno k diagnostice vegetačního krytu, protože zdravotní stav rostlin modifikuje jejich odrazové vlastnosti. Na základě odlišných odrazových vlastností lze selektovat stresovanou nebo mrtvou vegetaci. Nevýhoda dané metodiky spočívá ve skutečnosti, že nejsme schopni určit přesnou příčinu stresu, tedy i lýkožrouta smrkového, a proto je vhodné metodu doplnit terénním mapováním.

Abstract:

The analysis of bark beetle occurrence and forest disintegration was taken in the Protected Landscape Area of Jeseniky. The Earth remote sensing methodology was utilized as the theoretical and process base. The evaluation itself was carried out in ESRI ArcMap 10 software using aerial orthophotographs as the source data. Provided aerial images were made in visible, near-infrared part of the spectrum of radiation in year 2000 and 2004. In the course of the processing aerial imagery data it appeared that there are numerous technical shortcomings on the individual images. Due to this fact the time series method could not be applied and evaluated properly to determine accurate forest disintegration. Near-infrared radiation is frequently used to diagnose the vegetation cover as the plant health determines its light reflective properties. Thanks to this fact stressed or dead vegetation can be selected and isolated. The disadvantage of this approach lies in the fact that we are unable to determine the exact cause of the stress - especially bark beetle activity. Therefore it is appropriate to supplement this method using terrain mapping.
